“Congratulations! Today is your day. Your off to great places. Your off and away.” – Dr. Seuss
The seniors from my high school graduated today. May 28, 2007 was the day I graduated from high school and set forth on the next stage of my life: college. Now these freshly graduated students are about to embark on the next stage of their lives. Leaving home, leaving their families, and leaving their friends they have known since elementary school. What’s next for them will be a wonderful experience to grow and learn from.
Most of my classmates who I have went to high school with lives have gradually changed. Many just recently graduated from college, or got married and have kids, and some entered the work force. It’s been exciting to see how much people can change over four years. I, myself, still look the same but I definitely have changed- for the better.
16 days ago, during the midst of a rain storm and possible tornado, I walked across the stage and received my bachelors degree. Four years of hard work finally paid off. Long nights of studying, countless papers, and endless hours of class time came down to that moment, when they called my name and I got a chance to shake the president’s hand. After everyone received their degrees, the time came when everyone was able to finally switched their tassels from the right side to the left side of their caps, signifying we were all alums now. Now longer a student, but an official alumni.
Yesterday, I picked up my diploma. That marked the realization that I am a real graduate and an alumni. You know what, it feels good.
Like the seniors who just graduated today, I’m off to great places, I’m off and away.
